Thomas Crosby currently serves as the President of the board and has worked with HCDC for over ten years. He is also President The Insurance Exchange Ltd one of the leading African-American insurance agencies in the states of Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Georgia and Tennessee. We are also licensed to do business in Arizona, Arkansas, Mississippi, Missouri and North Carolina.

Crosby created his business to provide insurance services and products needed by clients and to create career opportunities for minorities. "If we offer the best in ourselves we, in turn, will have many great rewards come back to us." "With God, all things are possible" is one of the principles on which his agency is built. Under Thomas’s leadership his staff provides professional, honest, trustworthy, creative, and quality customer service. T. Alexis Owens is a senior executive leader who has provided global marketing solutions and services for 23+ years. Alexis began her marketing consulting practice to merge her training in marketing, communications, community outreach, research, and assessment to support businesses and organizations in developing successful and sustainable marketing models.

Although Alexis views her life and work as ministry, in 2005 she answered a formal call to ministry and was licensed to preach the gospel. Currently she is pursuing a Masters of Divinity Degree from McCormick Theological Seminary and serves as an Assistant Minister at Third Baptist Church of Chicago (TBCoC). At TBCoC she actively works with church leadership, ministries and her peers to establish life-changing initiatives that serve communities and draws others to God.

Alexis has served on the Board of Directors for The Black Ensemble Theatre, Athletes Against Drugs and The National Diversity Council. Currently she serves on American Baptist Churches of Metropolitan Chicago Advisory Council, Black Girls Jump and is Vice President of The Heritage Community Development Corporation.

Rev. Joel R. Mitchell is an ordained and licensed minister who has worked in the field of social services for over 20 years. He currently serves as a Deputy Commissioner with the Chicago Department of Family and Support Services, where he provides oversight for the Human Services and Workforce Service Divisions. Reverend Mitchell earned a Master of Divinity and Master of Theological Studies from McCormick Theological Seminary. He is presently pursuing his Doctor of Ministry in Pastoral Care and Counseling at Chicago Theological Seminary. “I was extremely excited when I was invited to join the Board of Directors for the Heritage Community Development Corporation (HCDC). HCDC is a solid organization that has been both a pillar and beacon in the community, providing much needed services on behalf of the residents in this community for many years. In particular, I would like to highlight HCDC’s Summer Program, “Safe Haven” . The Safe Haven Program provides a safe, nurturing environment where children in the community can receive a nutritious meal, engage in recreational activities and participate in exciting field trips that are both fun and educational.”

Denise was born and raised in Chicago, IL and has a tremendous heart for serving her community. Denise is a single parent of identical twin boys and enjoys being an active participant in her community. Denise is currently a Community Health Worker at the University of Chicago Medicine’s Urban Health Initiative. In this role Denise fervently follows up with all her clients and ensure she can do all she can to help them manage their health. Denise works with children/adolescents and their families in Chicago’s South Side to provide asthma education, environmental assessments and ensure they are connected to their primary care provider.

Two weeks after graduating from the University of Iowa, Simone began her professional career at Rockwell International Graphics Systems Division in their Data Processing Department. Simone was exposed to the intricacies of customer service relationships. Simone credits her work ethic and structure to the leadership of the many mentors at Rockwell International where they were committed to employee development and growth.Early in her career, Simone quickly transitioned to Rockwell’s supervisory level to work as a Supervisor of 5 employees in the Data Entry department. She later moved to more challenging positions (Programmer I and II) in order to meet the needs of the company as well as her own personal and professional development.

She traveled to many states to learn the latest and greatest technology in the mid 80’s. Leveraging her knowledge in the technology arena she obtained many positions in the consulting world. Simone has worked with large clients such as Andersen Consulting, C.N.A Insurance, Society of Actuaries and Veterans Health Administration.Additionally, Simone gained exposure on a global stage teaching Chief Technology Officers, Managers and Supervisors world wide on the changes in technology that will be implemented at their local sites. These sessions often reached over 2000+ listeners.Although as an Enterprise Manager at the Veterans health Administration where she and her team supported over 220,000+ users, her focus was on efficiency strategies. The implementation of the new technology within the government branch proved to be successful by their efficiency scales. It was indeed her exposure to a wide variety of organizational structures that influenced Simone to pursue other career opportunities in the healthcare industry.

With over 20 years’ experience in various industries and applying a strong expertise in data-driven, long-term strategic planning, Simone has been a welcome addition to her current role as the Director of Clinical Operations – Government Programs division.Her key responsibilities now are to provide prompt responses to the State (CMS, HSAG and HFS), preparing care coordinators for state auditing and providing services to our community through the Community Social Service team.

She is also responsible for care coordination accreditation submission which is to provide quantitative and qualitative analysis for quality improvement projects.Simone is also actively engaged in Blue Cross as she serves as the Co-Chair on the BCBSIL United Way Steering Committee for BCBSIL Corporate Chapter for the last 10 years raising $1 million dollars annually.Her mission in life is to affect transformational change in society through education and her personal experiences. Her success is truly defined in other’s triumphs and growth. Managing to uniquely divide her time, she serves on the advisory board of SMT (Serving ManKind Together) Foundation and serves on Make A Wish Diversity Council. In addition she serves as the President on Health Care Service Corporations Affinity group AAIM.

Early College Programs City Colleges of Chicago

Ms. Sharon Williams joined City Colleges of Chicago (CCC) in 2005.  In this role, Ms. Williams is responsible for overseeing compliance issues as they relate to policies and procedures with the Early College Program at City Colleges of Chicago.  Ms. Williams works closely with the Illinois Community College Board (ICCB) which governs the Early College Programs (dual credit/dual enrollment programs) for high school students.  Ms. Williams works with seven City Colleges to ensure that all guidelines for the program are held to high standards.  Ms. Williams manages and supervises all programmatic internal and external audit reviews and also works with the Business Manager and CCC Foundation as it relates to funding from the City of Chicago, Federal and other outside agencies.  Ms. Williams has also worked with the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) for funding to support Summer Youth Programs and Child and Adult Food Program (CACFP) at the City Colleges of Chicago.
